There are plenty of arguments for staying on the fringes of London if you plan to visit the great city, but personally I just don’t think that it is practical, especially if you are new to the city. If you have been coming to London for years and you know your favourite haunts then of course it is better for you to stay near to the area that you want to visit, but for those who are uninitiated, the centre is by far the best place to be. There are two reasons for this. If you want to travel all over the city, it’s much easier to do it from a central location. Secondly, I personally think that there is more going on in central London than anywhere else in the capital.
The centre has all of the best shops, the most interesting areas, and all of the best bars and clubs. If you want shopping you have Regent Street and Saville Row. Special boutiques are a speciality of Covent Garden, and you don’t get Chinatown anywhere else but central London.
The biggest thing for me though, is that all the theatres are in Central London. There is a fabulous production that will start soon too. They are making a stage version of The Wizard of Oz and all reports suggest that it is going to break all box office records. If you are in the centre of London it makes it much easier to see something like this. Beware, though. If you would like to go and see this production, you would be wise to book early. You should really go online and book your wizard of Oz tickets before you even book your hotel room.

In England there is normally an outcry when any of the tax payers money goes on anything that is not considered to be essential. Remember the uproar surrounding the creation of the Millennium Dome? People reacted in fury thanks to the millions it cost us all to build. The French seem to have a slightly different take on things, and the decision to build an enormous building to further thought and learning was welcomed with open arms. The Pompidou Centre houses the The main Paris Library, and the National Museum of Modern Art. The Art museum is the largest of its kind in the whole of Europe and I find it thrilling that the French people found the money to invest in the creative people of their country in this way. The Museum organises many exhibitions every year and last year saw the likes of Soulages and Kandinsky display.
The Centre, known to locals as the Beaubourg, is named after Georges Pompidou, who was at the time of building, the President of France. Funnily enough, when construction was completed, Valery Giscard d’Estaing was the new president and it was himself who had to declare the brain child of his predecessor open!
If you are considering visiting Paris in the near future then I would highly recommend that you visit the Pompidou centre. There are plenty of cheap hotels in Paris which are in good range of the centre, and any taxi company should be able to take you right to its doors.

The Sights and Sounds of London
London really is a great place to visit, and if you are heading there soon, here are a few hints and tips that you can take with you!
Try to see as much of this great city as possible! We would advise that you buy yourself a week long railcard which allows you to travel on any of the public transport. Don’t make the mistake of buying a zone 1 railcard, because you are bound to find some places that are well worth the visit outside of this central area.
Be careful when booking your hotel in London. There are plenty of unsavoury places to stay. I would recommend anyone planning to find a hotel to search online for cheap hotels in London and from there just make sure you are selective. Find somewhere that has reviews and recommendations or you might find yourself staying somewhere somewhat less than salubrious!
Visit North London to hear the best of the city! All of the best music venues are situated in North London, and Camden Town is littered with live music venues bug and small. Try The Dublin Castle for unsigned bands, and The Electric Ballroom for mid-sized touring bands.
For the best sights in London, you should travel to Highgate Hill. This area of London is really quite beautiful, and the view afforded in this region allows you to look out across all of London – something you will find hard to do from any other location in this great city.
